10 Tips For Booking An Airline Ticket
After the decline in air travel after September
11th, airlines are seeing a steady increase in air travel
as people lose their jitters about the safety of flying.
Although flying might be safer, statistically, than riding
on a bus, booking an airplane ticket is certainly not as
simple a matter as booking a bus ticket. Read on for some
travel savvy tips for making this process easier.
Always
check multiple websites; different websites offer
very different fares on the same exact flight. Always check
a variety of websites, including Expedia-type websites, but
don’t forget to try the airlines’ websites themselves. Sometimes
their rates are actually cheaper.
Book
in advance unless you’re looking for a last-minute
fare. Always plan ahead when it comes to air travel and then
watch the prices for about a month or two once you’ve decided
on your plans. Buy when the price is lowest.
If you have a lot of flexibility, try for a last-minute
fare. A lot of airlines offer ridiculously low prices on
fares if you are willing to sit in the airport for a while
waiting for a flight that has room for you. Last minute fares
can be a gold-mine.
Search for different
dates when you are looking for flights.
First check your most preferred dates and then check dates
before and after it. Airfare is a tricky business and it’s
not always evident why prices change from one day to the
next.
Consider the days
of the week that you are flying. Some
days are more expensive than others; weekdays have a whole
different schema than weekend days do. Check both for the
lowest price.
Avoid
business travelers’ preferred times. Not wanting to
be away from family for too long, business travelers tend
to fly first thing Monday morning in order to have Sunday
night at home, but work Monday afternoon. Avoid this schema
for lower prices.
Know what kind
of a jet you’re flying on. If you’re deathly
afraid of small planes, read the information in fine print
because sometimes that standard-airline flight is contracted
out to a small company with planes smaller than you might
feel comfortable flying on.
Don’t
choose the last flight of the day from your departure
point to destination point. If something goes wrong, there
is no ‘next flight’ to take.
Steer
clear of holidays. Plan well in advance so that you
have a few days off before the holiday. Traveling on December
22nd and on December 24th are two very different things and
have two very different price tags.
Choose
your seat when you book online. Flying to Paris smack
dab in the middle of a row of five seats is not a fun way
to spend a night. Aisle seats and window seats are highly
preferred, but a lot of people don’t know that you can reserve
them online through most bookers’ websites. If you wait until
you arrive at the airport, most likely all of these coveted
seats will already be taken.
Air travel still has a lot of fun left in it even if it
doesn’t have its novelty any more for most of us. Take the
opportunity to relax during your flight and to get ready
for what’s waiting for you in your destination whether it’s
work or fun. Without a plan of attack, booking plane tickets
can be a big hassle. If you follow these basic tips for buying
your airplane ticket, you should be much better able to sit
back, relax, and enjoy flying the friendly skies.
