Top 7 Signs Of A Discount Travel & Vacation Scam

Vacation is the time of the year that you have always waited for but you need to be aware when you make your reservations that the company you are dealing with is not fraudulent. Many feel excited when offered free vacations or special discounted offers that you do not take the time to examine the terms and conditions of the sale before providing your credit card details to the so called vendor. There are signs that you need to look for that will highlight a vacation scam to you. Below are the seven signs that are commonly apparent in a vacation scam...

You will be offered an unbelievable vacation package that requires you to make payment immediately to secure the offer but there will be no formal documents to state the terms and conditions of the contract between you and the seller. Although travel packages requires you to make advance payments, a genuine seller will provide you details of the contract that will be stated clearly in writing. As a consumer, you have every right to request details of the contract before making payment.

The seller requests you to make payment 60 days in advance for the vacation package. You should avoid from giving your credit card details as this is surely a trap as after the 60 days period is over you will lose your rights to claim for a refund from the bank and the seller walks away with the money.

Scammers usually prefer to deal with you by insisting to use a courier service rather than using the normal post. This is to evade them from any liability that may arise due to their action of sending you fraudulent materials under the postal rules and regulations that can be enforced against them. Another tactic that you need to be aware of is that they usually have telemarketers that try to persuade you in accepting the deal via phone only. In such instances, you need to present questions to the marketer to verify their company details to you. If you receive answers that are not clear-cut, but there seems to be some hidden agenda behind the whole deal, then don’t bother to continue with the conversation.

You are offered with the opportunity to become a travel agent to enable you to receive special offers and discounts on any vacation packages that you select. Some sellers may even offer you trips that are free of charge. In return you need to pay a certain fee so that you can be awarded with the title of a confirmed travel agent. Becoming a travel agent is not that simple, there are certain procedures that are involved which you can verify by consulting with relevant parties because even as a travel agent your benefits to enjoy trips at a lower rate has its limitation as well.

The seller offers you free or complimentary services that are just too good to be true. Later during your vacation you find yourself compelled to attend sales presentation that promotes other travel packages or Time Shares. Your vacation time is wasted plus a high amount of pressure is placed on to you to purchase whatever product that is being promoted.

You are not told of the exact price of the vacation package, meaning you are offered lodging and airfare at a very low rate but later on there is some additional charges or fees that you would need to pay to enjoy the vacation. Genuine companies would inform you on all the charges involved beforehand before the transaction. Therefore always request for a price list that will state all the upgrades that are involved.

The seller and the vendor are two different entities. This fact clearly shows that the parties do not want to bear liability in the event there is a complaint. You as a consumer would be left with no course of action against the parties as the seller get paid for the deal whilst the vendor might state that he is not the service provider for the particular product.

The best way to avoid vacation scams is to always be cautious in any transaction that requires you to make payment in advance.
