How
To Book A Cruise at a Discount
A
cruise is an ideal vacation if you are ready for a little
adventure and a lot of relaxation. Getting
on a boat and setting sail for a remote island or distant
land is a romantic gift (especially for a new bride). Heading
out in search of new sights, sounds and other experiences
is also
the
perfect
thing to spark your kids’ imaginations. The great thing about
a cruise is that it can be almost anything you need it to
be when it comes time for vacation. It can be private and
intimate or it can be a social goldmine with excitement and
entertainment around every corner. The only issue that may
continue to nag your mind is the cost. Since cruises offer
all-inclusive deals with lodging, passage, food and entertainment,
aren’t they expensive? Especially new couples starting out,
or families trying to budget a vacation in the midst of supporting
growing children, the cost can be daunting. Still, the trip,
food and entertainment are hard to just forget about when
it comes time to plan a nice vacation. So, for all of those
adventurous, yet luxury oriented people out there, here are
a few ways to get on the boat without sinking your ship.
‘Tis the Season
No doubt about it, there is a season for cruising. While
summer is a typical time for families to go on road trips
and students run to the beaches in spring, cruises typically
happen at Christmastime. Why is that? During the winter is
when people get very tired of the cold. Cabin fever starts
to hit and they start thinking about warmer climates and
more activity. Right after Christmas, business all over the
country slows down nearly to a halt and time off becomes
more available to workers. A cruise is an ideal solution
for winter blues because of the atmosphere of a cruise ship.
The weather is warm, but unlike other tropical vacations,
the cruise involves travel during the whole time away. That
is ideal for people feeling stuffed into confinement by the
cold weather. What all of that means is that cruises are
very popular in the middle of the northern winter, so, add
a little supply and demand and you get the picture. When
looking for a discount cruise, avoid holidays. Also, make
sure you find out when the rainy season is of your cruise
destination. The cruise price may be extremely low in the
early fall, but the exchange of being rained out of any land
activities may not be worth it.
Before You Pack, Look at Packages
Even at the grocery store it’s cheaper to buy in bulk. Whether
it’s cereal or dog food, the bigger the package, the lower
the average cost. The same holds true for vacations. If you
are setting out to find a discount cruise, look for packages.
For example, if you can combine your flight and boat passage,
you can probably save big bucks. If you have the option of
an all inclusive or pay as you go, choose all inclusive.
You will end up spending less money in the end and still
enjoy all of the comforts the cruise has to offer.
The Anatomy of a Cruise Ship
One final way to save money on a cruise vacation
is to be careful when selecting your cabin. It is impossible
for every
room on the ship to have a balcony, or even a window. If
you need to watch your budget, forget the view from your
room. You probably won’t be spending much time there anyway.
Cruise ships have large decks with 360° views. They also
have nearly constant entertainment, and frequent stops. Don’t
blow your vacation money on small conveniences, but get the
most for your money by settling for a slightly less desirable
cabin. #
