Gimme Some Discount Travel Ideas
Last
Minute Travel – Discount Travel Cheap
Let’s face it; we’d all travel more if it
were more affordable. Who among us wouldn’t jump at the opportunity
to take an exciting weekend trip if we didn’t have to worry
about the cost? But luckily there is an outlet for the frustrated
traveler suffering from cabin fever and those burned out,
exhausted employees who are literally daydreaming of the
upcoming weekend. If you are adventurous, enjoy saving
money and computer savvy you can enjoy many fantastic last
minute
trips for much less than you’d pay if you’d booked the same
trip far in advance. Internet sites abound with advertisements
for cheap, last minute deals and travel packages that can
be booked at a reasonable rate for that must-have weekend
getaway. Recently Travelocity advertised a weekend getaway,
including round-trip flights and luxury hotel, from Phoenix
to Denver for as low $174 per person if you could travel
that upcoming weekend. These low cost getaway options can
enable the couple who never had a proper honeymoon to finally
have that special weekend, or it can open a new vacation
opportunity for the young family living payday to payday
that otherwise couldn’t afford to take a vacation, additionally
it’s also a great opportunity for grandpa and grandma to
get out of the house and enjoy themselves on a weekend fling.
These surprisingly affordable packages can be found at online
booking engines such as Orbitz, Travelocity, Expedia,
Travel Zoo. Among the last minute travel deal sites is a relatively
new Travelocity offshoot called Site59. Site 59 exclusively
offers last minute getaways and has additional options that
will allow you to customize your last minute getaway with
pre-paid meals, rental cars, and excursions and show tickets.
With options such as pre-paid meals and excursions it takes
nearly all the guesswork out of last minute travel and begs
the question why we don’t all take more last minute trips?
These
last-minute deals are typically the unsold, distressed
inventory of travel consolidators. They are the center airline
seats, the flight to Minneapolis in the dead of winter and
the lovely hotel room with a bland and uninspiring view of
the adjoining building’s wall. While they may have their
drawbacks they certainly make up for it in affordability.
Additionally, while they are usually non-refundable, they
aren’t such a big financial gamble that it’ll break the proverbial
bank if your plans suddenly change. That said, it is important
to ensure that you consider your booking carefully. You’ll
want to be sure that you won’t have any conflicting commitments
during the chosen travel time, that the weather will cooperate,
and that you have enough cash to pay for any additional expenses
like tips, taxes, meals, souvenirs and lastly, and perhaps
most importantly, if a passport is required to make the trip.
Due to new restrictions from the U.S. State Department if
you will be flying outside of the United States a passport
will now be required for re-entry o the U.S. and if you do
not already hold one it’s best to wait and re-book the trip
once you’ve secured a passport. Applying for a passport is
a time consuming process and expediting a passport can be
rather expensive. If you anticipate making trips outside
of the United States and taking advantage of future last-minute
travel deals, it is a good idea to apply for a passport with
the U.S. State Department now, so that when the opportunity
to snag those low, low priced tickets to Cancun presents
itself next year you are poised to strike and enjoy. #
