Travel To Hot Spots In The Off-Season
The most beautiful places to vacation seem
to be filled with crowds of people. You suppose that’s how
you know you’re in a great vacation spot. If they’re popular,
they must be good. The tourism boards know that their homes
are great places to vacation too and that is why the prices
are so high. If only there was a way to get to the greatest
vacation spots and pay affordable rates. Well, there is a
way. The best way to get a great deal on an idyllic vacation
is to travel in the off-season.
What is the Off-Season?
The off-season in a given tourist spot is the time of year
when less people are apt to travel to them. This could be
because of weather, because of fewer activities available
or because of traveler schedules. Weather is a major deterrent
for many people who like to predict perfect balmy days all
the time. There is a natural ebb and flow of activity no
matter where you go. Depending on the culture of the people
you visit, there will be more or fewer pastimes available.
Counting on other travelers’ schedules can be more difficult,
but still doable. There are patterns for when people tend
to travel.
Weather
When traveling to a destination during an off-season due
to weather, be careful. In many of the North American busy
spots, winter brings on closures. Mount Rushmore, for example,
is available for viewing year-round. Don’t count on anything
else being open in the winter though. The beautiful caves
and other outdoor attractions close for the off-season. Looking
at more tropical locations, snow is not an issue, but rain
is. Many tropical locations including Costa Rica and Hawaii
experience rainy seasons in the summer and/ or fall. The
rainy season depends on the location. Because the tropical
off-seasons last so long, the people are used to them and
business typically goes on as usual. The only difference
is more rain and fewer tourists. With fewer tourists, prices
go down and you may get some seaside downpours all to yourself.
Activities
It is less likely to experience difficulties with the flux
of local activity going on in your destination of choice.
Many islands, such as Hawaii and the Bahamas, offer events
year ‘round. The idea is to find out which ones you are most
interested in. The more popular displays and parades and
things will draw larger crowds and makes prices rise just
a little bit. If you are interested in traveling within the
United States, January will be your best bet for an off-season
when it comes to activities. Business in general slows down
as people leave the holidays behind them.
Traveler Schedules
You can probably make a pretty safe bet that most travelers
will not be taking their trips in the early to mid fall.
(This lines up beautifully with the rainy seasons of many
tropical locations). As the lazy days of summer come to an
end, people tend to get back into work mode. They gear up
for work and students return to school. Spring breakers are
ready to hold out till March or April and parents with young
children are ready to help with homework instead of gallivanting.
If you can afford to miss out on your own work or to take
your kids out of school for a week or so, you will get the
best travel rates in September and October.
The off-season happens at different times for different
parts of the world. When it does approach a normally busy
tourist attraction, prices go down in order to encourage
more interest. Do a little more research about the travel
destination you have in mind and try out discount traveling
in the off-season. #
